N‘OSTALGIE Museum Leipzig
Where was the “Valley of the Clueless” and where did “Erich’s Lamps” actually go? Who were the “Wald- und Wiesenbeatles” and what is the story behind the “Bückware”?
In the N’OSTALGIE Museum, around 30,000 exhibits, which mainly shed light on the everyday culture of the GDR, are displayed in themed rooms. Because the GDR cannot be reduced to a handful of dates, a few names and the Wall, it is precisely the everyday things that make this collection so fascinating.
Our “general goods catalogue”, for example, includes priceless radios, reliable kitchen gadgets, rattling 2 and 4-stroke engines and rare toys, as well as lots of plastic and elastic. Find props from well-known cinema films or marvel at the inventive spirit of the home-made brand. Of course, “AKA electric is also at home with us”, as is the “little speedy bee, the carpet sweeper”.
Arranged in detail and occasionally inviting you to smile, the charm of the museum lies in the fact that the exhibits are deliberately arranged without any information or explanatory signs. Instead, you are invited to browse, discover and marvel.
