One museum – two journeys.
The exhibitions of the Stuttgart Natural History Museum are spread over two buildings in Rosenstein Park: Museum am Löwentor and Rosenstein Palace.
Rosenstein Castle – A journey around the world:
The exciting natural history journey of discovery at Rosenstein Castle takes visitors through dense tropical jungles, barren deserts, green forests and the icy deserts of the polar regions. Elaborately designed living spaces show animals and plants from the different landscape zones of the earth. Local nature, from butterflies to red deer, is not neglected either. The whole diversity of life is reflected in Rosenstein Castle.
New exhibition areas “Immerse yourself in diversity” and “Evolution creates diversity” at Rosenstein Castle:
The new exhibition areas “Immerse yourself in diversity” and “Evolution creates diversity” at Rosenstein Castle invite you to immerse yourself in the world of the oceans among coral reefs, black smokers, swordfish, grey seals and storm petrels. Or join the giant panda and black jaguar on an exciting journey of discovery through the diversity of species. At the start of a comprehensive redesign of its permanent biological exhibition, the Stuttgart Natural History Museum has completely redesigned the most prominent exhibition rooms in the palace with the public favourites whale and elephant. Impressive room displays, exhibits that have never been shown before and newly designed habitats show the diversity in the water and on land and make the topics of evolution and biodiversity easy to understand. The new Marine and Evolution Hall at Rosenstein Castle will open in February 2023.
Museum am Löwentor – A journey into prehistoric times:
The Museum am Löwentor presents world-famous fossil finds from south-west Germany. These include the oldest dinosaur finds in Europe, the oldest turtles in the world and the uniquely preserved marine dinosaurs of the Swabian Alb. Lifelike dinosaur models, reconstructed according to scientific findings, cavort in detailed landscapes. Spectacular skeletal assemblages and models of giant mammals from the Ice Age, such as mammoths, steppe elephants and cave bears, are further highlights worth seeing.
