Tour 3: City tour pub and trendy neighbourhood
This tour takes time to explore the loving details of Dresden’s most extraordinary neighbourhood.
When the pavements in Dresden’s baroque open-air museum – the Old Town – are turned up at around 9 p.m., the city’s pub district just starts to come to life at this time of night. More than 150 pubs, a colourful art and music scene and all sorts of exciting stories about the great Dresden writer Erich Kästner, who spent his childhood in the Outer Neustadt district, can be found here in a very small space. If only he knew what it was like here in the wild 80s when the first houses were squatted! And then in the hot 90s, when one crazy pub after another sprouted up like mushrooms. Most of them illegal.
Following in Kästner’s footsteps, we stroll into the colourful hustle and bustle of the young, trendy district with its cosy backyards, cool cocktail bars and clubs, inviting street cafés, galleries, small stages and the oldest Jewish cemetery in Saxony.
Let us make you curious about a district that narrowly escaped the socialist wrecking ball thanks to the fall of communism, is characterised by its unconventional residents like no other and celebrates itself every year in June at a lively street festival, the “Colourful Republic of Neustadt”.
Puntos del programa:
Albertplatz, Erich Kästner Museum, Scheune cultural centre, KunstHofPassage, Panama animal farm, Jewish cemetery, Nordbad, end in the pub district

Tour 4: City tour of the baroque and trendy district
This tour is an overview tour of Neustadt and can be seen as an extension of the Old Town.
The former Altendresden, rebuilt under Saxony’s Sun King Augustus the Strong to become the New Royal City of Dresden, is an insider tip for relaxed shopping, strolling and savouring. Handicraft gems in baroque courtyards, secluded green courtyards, the oldest theatre building in the state capital and a ravishingly beautiful Art Nouveau market hall (where Erich Kästner used to shop) are what make this deeply relaxed quarter so appealing.
It’s almost a shame that we have to move on now. To Äussere Neustadt, the colourful, lively pub and trendy district. The place where most of Dresden’s children, artists and musicians live. Where everything that makes a metropolis gastronomically exciting can be found, from simple snack bars, bars, clubs and cafés to fine restaurants. At the latest in the oasis of the senses, the magnificent Kunsthofpassage with its artistically designed courtyards, its charming eateries, its enchanting shops and the handcrafted gems from the Dresden region, you will fall prey to collective rejoicing.
